Interior styling with heart

Starting on our new journey = new country & new house renovation.

When it comes too jumping in, we probably live on the more risk taking side. My 2 girls and I followed my husband to live in UK the end of November 2020, moving our family from Holland were we have been living for 4.5 years.

We went into 2 weeks isolation, having travelled in Corona, so we were in a small short stay apartment and started mapping out our new life....

This included ALOT of google searching, trying to get a feel for areas, as we were not able to go see anywhere, and as our oldest was very sad to leave her friends, I didn’t want her to start a school in one area for then shifting her again.

So, after isolation I MAJOR house hunted... seeing 4-6 houses a day, but we managed to buy a house in 3 weeks and hopefully we get the keys end January 2021 -you buy without a set completion day in UK, which for us is new, but we are super excited!!

Now the transformation begins!
As we bought a house with extension potential, we are doing a ‘light’ make-over before moving in and then a full renovation in a few years.. hoping we can save up for it, so now the research begins.... paints - furniture and inspiration flow... can wait! Stay toned to the whole process here... still awaiting the keys.

Sitting, sitting and more sitting..... some GREAT chairs.

When it comes to dining chairs, these can make your dining room!

There are so many options out there, whether you are into Colors, Romantic French, Contemporary Modern, Simplistic or Eclectic and everything in between.

Picture
Some Scandinavian replica pieces, which combines simple lines,
with modern style.

Based in Danish designer Børge Morgensens design,
they retail for 295$ on clickonfurniture.com.au

Picture
Another great Scandinavian inspired chair is the Chester Side Chair, also from clickonfurniture.com.au, they retail at 249$
Picture
And of course my personal favorite in Scandinavian classic chairs, the wishbone chair, created by Hans Wegner.
The original design chair retails from around 700$. However, you can get good replica´s which retails from 295$, but are often on sale. The ones on the picture is from Matt Blatt.

The come in many different colors, from natural wood as Ash & Oak, over to color coated in white, black, yellow & Green etc.

If you have children, you might want chairs which are easy to clean but still looks great!

Here are some great choices for child friendly chairs.

Another nice choice is to go with steel, which has this modern NYU loft feeling to it.

Adding steel with wood and earth colors creates a great sense of warmth to a room, and an edgy feel.

Below is Harry Bertoia replica chair from Matt Blatt, retailing from 130$ AUD for the white, and 350$ AUD for the black.

These Phillip Stark chairs, are a great choice for a modern simplistic chair, that combines the easiness of plastic with great looking design.

I would recommend keeping to black or white though, since the color ones, in my opinion, losses a lot of their sophisticated touch.

Cool steel charm...

Another great steel chair is Napier dining chair from Domayne. This retails at 319$ AUD.
Picture

French Romance....

If you are more into the French inspired style, which also goes great for that sea front beach look. MaisonLiving has some great pieces.

My own favorite is this very simple and classic country french style chair Bentwood, from Maisonliving.
Its romantic and delicate, yet not to showy, which makes it a great companion for a big wooden dining table, with large candles for that romantic mood. Retails at 159$ AUD.

POP of color!!

Picture
This Breda chair is a beautiful colorful addition to any dining room.

The transparent orange lacquered material makes for a perfect colorful choice to brigthen up a darker color scheme in a dining room / open kitchen.

It would work wonders with dark grey on the walls and black glossy subway tiles in the kitchen. Creating that color pop, I love it!

Retails for 319$ AUD at BoConcept.

I have to admit for a time now, I have loved the products coming from Kartell. They are funky and different.
Even though a lot of them take their inspiration from 1970´s flower child period, they work great as a touch of funky fresh in the clean white lines which are fashionable today.

The chair above is a Phillip Stark design for Kartell, the ghost chair, comes in different colors and retails for 99$ AUD at Matt Blatt, as a replica.

Conclusion....

Picture
For a more modern take on French boudoir style, this Markson Dining chair from Coco Republic, falls right in to that classic, yet modern lounge feeling.

Would be amazing combines with a straight lined dining table to create a contrast.

Picture

For more antiques and french inspired chairs as spindle back chairs - check out Lawson´s auction.

The last color chair I would mention is Xavier Pauchard replica chair in blue.

The blue color is lovely and will combine great with almost all color palettes, maybe except red. And its funky!

Retails at 101$ AUD from Matt Blatt.

Picture
That was a little of my favorite dining chairs... I know some of you might wonder why the Eames chair is not included? This is simply because its becoming so popular, that everyone has it, and for me that makes it loss its appeal a little....

My Dream Kitchen

6/3/2015

This week I am starting on a kitchen project for a client, and this has REALLY got my thoughts to turn on my own DREAM kitchen! We are still renting, but my inspiration folders are booming with ideas - so though I would share some with you ! So this weeks post will be all about that "heart of the house", hope you will draw some inspiration!

Colors? YES give me color!

Although I must admit, that I will not be likely to put color in my kitchen in form of cabinets, walls painted or splash back, I'm way, way to changeable for this permanent installation, and will more lean towards buying colorful accessorize and painting old furniture to give that extra splash of color! Which just always brings a smile on my face.

I hope some of you will share your dreams for a kitchen!

Cheers

Linda

Moving rental and making a home that fits....

Hi all,

Following my last post, we recently moved!

We have now been in our new place for about 3 weeks, and it slowly starts to feel like home, even though we still have carpets, which I dread, but for now we will just have to make do:)

The first thing I do with a "blank canvas" as a new space is, I sit down with a cup of tea and picture what it is I want, then I start to create moodboards for the different areas, to give me inspiration:)

Right now, I am working on creating a play area for our daughter who is 2 years old, and even though we have to make do with what we have, and the final project is not going to look exactly like the images I found, its still a very good source to get your ideas flowing and start getting something down on paper. This will help you when you start the sourcing of different pieces for your space.

Here you can see my moodboard for the playarea I am currently creating:

Picture
I want her to have space for reading a book with her, having space to draw and also, create a space where she can get to her toys, to encourage independent play.

I am not done yet, but wanted to share my progress with you, so this is the play area so far.....

Picture
Picture
It still needs some framing around the drawing board, some more pillows in the reading area, and I want a tipi or tent, and also some better pictures on the wall, which compliments each other. In addition I would like a real rug to cover up the horrible blue carpet and framing the posters with numbers..... but creating ones home is a process and ones "finished" I will share with you my final result, well almost final, a play-area will change with the child/ren.

I hope this inspires you to get starting on your own play-area.

Cheers

Linda

Starting on Inspiration folders

When starting on an interior design project, its a good idea to start gathering inspiration before even beginning the project!

Take a few weeks to go around and look at all the inspiration you can find.

This does not mean dedicating yourself to a constant inspiration search, but more to be open to the inspiration around you.
Whether this be a trip to a museum to get color inspiration, going to the beach and gather your thoughts or buying magazines and cutting out the pictures which inspire you.

Create folders for each room or if you are just choosing a color scheme, group the pictures and photos in colors.

Them put the things which you like the most on a mood board, slowly a color scheme or a certain style will take form, and you are closer to finding out the perfect fit for your project!

Have fun with it, and happy decorating!!

Decorating with colour!

4/24/2015

Decorating a space in terms of color is easy if you use the 60-30-10.

Take a look at some rooms in magazines , you'll notice that the rooms you like the most are almost invariably divided into percentages of 60-30-10. Why this works is anybody's guess. Perhaps it is the human tendency to see an overall theme in the 60 percent hue, unifying the coloration. The 30 percent provides visual interest and the 10 percent, not unlike jewelry, provides that little spark of sparkle.

So, when decorating a particular room, divide the colors into percentages:
60% of a dominant color
30% of a secondary color
10% of an accent color

When you think about it, this color breakdown is similar to a man's business suit:
60% of the outfit's color is the slacks and jacket
30% of the outfit's color is the shirt
10% of the outfit's color is the tie

Translated to a room setting, it typically means:
60% of the room's color is the walls
30% of the room's color is the upholstery
10% of the room's color is, say, an accent piece or a floral arrangement

Choosing a Color Scheme

Trying to decide on the right color scheme for a room or an entire home can be difficult. You can simplify the process by using a color wheel and narrowing down your choices to two color schemes. There are more, of course, but these are the most effective and provide a great place to start.

Complementary Color Scheme
Complementary colors are across from each other on the color wheel, such as red and green, blue and yellow, or purple and orange. Rooms decorated with a complementary color scheme tend to provide a clear separation of colors and often are more formal and more visually challenging. Complementary color schemes should be used in the more formal areas of the home — for example, the living room or dining room.

Analogous Color Scheme
Analogous colors are next to each other on the color wheel, such as yellow and green, blue and violet, or red and orange. Rooms using an analogous color scheme typically are more causal, restful and muted in terms of coloration. This color scheme is best used in the more informal areas of the home. Family rooms, dens and bedrooms — places where you’re searching for rest and recovery from the day — look and "feel" great in analogous colors.

To help you choose a color scheme, look at the colors in the largest pattern in the room first, be it drapery, upholstery fabric, an Oriental rug or a large artwork. Then choose colors based upon that piece. This is much easier (and less expensive) than painting the walls a particular color and finding that absolutely nothing else on the planet, let alone in your room, will match it. In other words, if your favorite piece of art is red, black and gray, you can choose the gray to be 60 percent, the red to be 30 percent and the black to be the 10 percent — or the red could be the dominant color with the gray and black taking secondary and accent roles.

Happy Decorating
